Etchington Primary School
Local school brings community together
As part of the development of the locally known ‘Lambing Field’, which will include replacement homes and a village hall, East Sussex County Council have funded the building of a replacement school. The brand new Etchington Primary School will not only provide the village with a new school, but also dedicated playgroup facilities, indoor sports, a stage, and a new community hall.
Under contractor Balfour Beatty, O’Rourke were tasked with laying the asphalt footpaths, the new carriageway into theschool, and the large job of installing the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) sports surface – a total job worth circa £120,000.
The project had its tests, such as the laying of the MUGA sports surface, made tricky by the loose stone used as abase layer, which caused an uneven level to work with. However, the team did not let this phase them and thought on their feet, implementing rails across the loose stone to ensure they had an even surface to lay the MUGA on.
Etchington Primary School was also the perfect project to try out our brand new Bomag 223 Mini-Paver, which certainly had a massive impact on the running of the project by allowing a machine to layareas that previously could only have been hand-laid. This, along with the highly skilled workforce of 5 hand-layers and 7 machine-layers ensured that the project was completed on time and to a high standard.
We’re thrilled to have been involved in such a project, and hope that the Etchington community will benefit from the new primary school for many years to come.
